Internships

Husbandry Internships
Husbandry interns are hosted seasonally, with slots available in three yearly sessions. This unpaid position requires 360 hours of animal care for our collection of over 100 species of birds, mammals, reptiles, and amphibians. Interns have the opportunity to learn and participate in all aspects of zoo animal care, including diet preparation and delivery, enrichment, health monitoring, behavioral training, and enclosure cleaning and maintenance. Opportunities to shadow and participate in tours, educational and special events, and other presentations are also included. In daily care, hands-on animal handling is limited.

Base hours are 9am - 1pm either Sunday-Thursday or Tuesday-Saturday, but some afternoon and evening work is also required.

Priority is given to applicants with no planned absences (holidays included) and those who are pursuing degrees in an animal related field or receiving college credit for their participation.
