2024 Summer Camps

Please use the information Below to decide which camps your child wants to attend.

Our Education Director, Kim Salsbury, brings with her years of invaluable teaching experience and numerous awards recognizing her as an outstanding educator. With her guidance, we have expanded our range of camps and diversified our options to fit your children’s interests.

Campers in our week-long sessions get hands-on opportunities (when safely possible!) with exotic animals from six continents during this science-based week of adventure. Animal adaptations, social behavior, habitats, and conservation are part of a curriculum that is enhanced by visits with a wide variety of animal "ambassadors.” Campers will see up to 75 species of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, and invertebrates. Please refer to the list of camp themes to match your needs and interests.

The camps run Monday through Friday and begin at 9:00 am and end at 4:00pm. The fee is $360.00/week, except for the week of July 4th which is $215.00. The fee includes a $50 nonrefundable deposit.

Due to staffing shortages, we do not offer before or After Care.

Camp Descriptions:

Grades 1 & 2 (Fall 2024)

Pokémon Pals

Increase your Pokémon Master skills with this summer camp! Learn which Pokémon matches the animals we have here at The Creature Conservancy. Campers will connect Pokémon with our mammals, reptiles, amphibians, birds, and invertebrates each day of camp. They will also make Pokémon crafts, play games, and earn Pokémon cards. Campers will increase both their Pokémon and animal classification mastery skills.

Sensational Animals

Did you know that a starfish uses its arms to see? Crickets use their legs to hear? A snake uses its tongue to smell? In this camp you will learn some really cool facts about animals and how they see, smell, taste, touch, and hear. At camp you will use your own senses to explore animals we have here at The Creature Conservancy. Each day of camp we will focus on one of our senses and explore how we are similar or different from animals.

Zoo Explorer

Grab your magnifying glasses and safari hats! In this camp you will explore how zoo animals are cared for, from preparing their meals to providing enrichment for the animals here at The Creature Conservancy. Campers will interact with the animals during presentations and animal visits. The future zookeepers will learn the importance of taking care of animals at the Conservancy and beyond.

Grades 3 & 4 (Fall 2024)

Operation Zoo

What does it take to run a zoo? What do the animals need in order to survive in captivity? Campers will learn about the Five Freedoms that zookeepers need to follow in order to meet all of the animal requirements in a zoo setting. In this camp there will be several animal presentations and visits. Campers will design a habitat for a zoo animal of their choice to share with other campers and our staff.

Wonderful World of Animals

From the rain forest of South America to the grasslands of Australia, our world has some unique and amazing animals! Campers will explore a different continent along with the related animals we have here at The Creature Conservancy each day of the week. They will make crafts and play games related to the continent of the day. Enjoy a week of camp as you travel and explore the animals from around the world.

Zoofari

It’s time to pack for a visit to the Zoofari! You will need to wear your comfy shoes as you will be exploring the animals here at The Creature Conservancy and learning about how wildlife and humans can coexist together. Campers will learn about ways they can help with wildlife conservation and what we are doing here at The Creature Conservancy to assist the animals in our care and around the world.

Grades 5 & 6 (Fall 2024)

Wild Adventures

Get closer to nature and the animals at The Creature Conservancy! Campers will take hikes to explore nature, collect insects and plants, and investigate a local stream for fish and macroinvertebrates. They will also learn about the habitats and conservation efforts of our animals here at The Creature Conservancy. This camp is designed for campers who love to explore the great outdoors and learn about its inhabitants.

Zoo Heroes

Our animals here at The Creature Conservancy have many superpowers! Harper can jump eighteen feet high and Chip can see over a mile away! Campers will learn how our animals are heroes from daily animal presentations and visits. Whether they are predators or prey, each animal has defense mechanisms in order to survive in their habitats.

Grades 7 - 9 (Fall 2024)

Zoo Squad

Get behind the scenes at The Creature Conservancy to see what zookeepers do everyday to take care of our animals. Assist in preparing meals and feeding animals here at TCC. Campers will also learn about medical care, habitat requirements, and enrichment activities needed to keep our animals safe and healthy. They will learn new skills in order to give animals the utmost care. This is a camp for those who are for future zookeepers and animal owners.

Grades 10 - 12 (Fall 2024)

Zoo Club

Zoo Club is for high school students who demonstrate an interest in learning more about animal care, in a zoo-like setting. Campers will prepare diets, feed animals, create enrichment activities, and learn how to do basic health assessments. Due to the advanced nature of this program, campers will need to demonstrate the ability to follow directions and safety procedures. If you are interested in a career in animal science or veterinary science, this club is for you!
